Although marijuanas effects are short lived, marijuana lingers in the body for weeks afterwards.
THC Is only detectable in the blood for a few hours, it breaks down very quickly into metobalites. There are around 80 metabolites created by THC and are gradually eliminated through the bodies waste system.
Types of Marijuana Drug Testing
There are a few ways of testing for marijuana levels in the body.
Urine testing tests for metabolites and marijuana can be detected between a few days and several weeks after use.
Blood testing checks for both cannabis and metabolites, it is effective for a few hours and up to 2 days after marijuana use.
Saliva testing checks for cannabis. It is effective for a few hours and up to 2 days after marijuana use.
Hair testing checks for the presence of metabolites and can be effective for up to 90 days after use.
How Long Can Marijuana be Detected
So how long does marijuana really stay in your system for?
After THC breaks down into metabolites, they are stored in body fat, some have a short half life of only about 20 hours, but others have a half life of around 10-13 days.
Although marijuana can generally only be detected in urine for up to 13 days, the detection period also depends on how much and how often the user smokes marijuana.
Regular cannabis smokers have reported testing positive 45 days after the last time they smoked. Heavy smokers have even reported positive test results after 90 days of using!
How Accurate are Marijuana Tests
Marijuana testing has come a long way over the years, false positives are incredibly rare.
Marijuana testing is done in two stages, the first stage is an immunoassay test, also known as an EMIT. If the results are positive, the sample is then tested using a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GCMS), which is even more accurate and gives more refined results.
There aren’t any substances known to give false results.
Can The Test be Beat?
Although there are many tales of beating the drug test, it’s uncertain if any of these methods really work.
You need to first know what kind if drug test you’ll be doing, if it’s a urine test (which is also the most common test), this is the easiest of them all to beat.
There are a lot of methods you may have heard of which really will have no effect on the drug test.
We will go over a few methods that do work.
Detoxing to Beat a Drug Test
If you know ahead of time that you will need to take a drug test, than you will have time on your side. Adopt a detox lifestyle, including exercise, saunas, clean eating, juicing, coffee enemas and drinking plenty of water… of course you would also need to stop smoking marijuana. If you know of your drug screening appointment a couple of months ahead of time, a detox lifestyle should help you beat the test.
Beat the Test on Short Notice
Employers often test their employees for drugs, as drug abuse has an affect on a companies output and on the internal workplace community.
If your employer asks you to take a drug test on short notice, for example, within a few days… you will likely fail the test.
It takes time to detox the body and while you may be able to speed the process along, don’t expect any miracles.
